MER cannot guarantee torsional compatibility with unverified rotating components in an assembly. We highly recommend a qualified engineer review the mass elastic data of all rotating components of the final assembly to assure against premature failure. Neither MER or the engine manufacturer will warranty engine or associated equipment failures due to torsional incompatibility in absence of a Torsional Vibration Analysis (TVA).
Although we don’t sell Caterpillar propulsion engines we had a lot of requests asking us if we could build CAT PTO kits. We made our first kit three years ago and continue to add more options.
Kits are available for the C18, 3512 and 3516 propulsion engines. All three of these engines are popular for a variety of commercial fishing boats that need to run hydraulics off the front.
Since the C18 engine is available with a front bellhousing, it was an easy decision to design a front PTO. Currently, we are offering 1000, 1200, 1500 and 2000 ft-lb electric clutch options. Installation takes about 2 hours and can be configured for a gear pump drive like the one pictured for the 3512 kits.
The 3512 has a bit more power available off the front. By adding our speed increasing, double pump drive set-up, two stacked pumps can be run off the front for a combined total flow of 300GPM @ 2000 PSI at engine idle that is roughly 2500 ft-lbs of torque. For this size of the operation, we often go to an air clutch configuration.
Don’t see what you need? We are more than happy to customize a solution that works for your particular operation.
